Representatives of the Keep Welfare On Track campaign received a warm welcome from spectators and staff at Lingfield Park Racecourse on 10th May. The campaign team was there to spread the word about the importance of securing a statutory levy for enhancing greyhound welfare, as the statutory levy on horseracing has done for racehorse welfare.
Throughout the day, our team spoke with enthusiastic spectators, as well as commentators and jockeys, with the support of the fantastic team at Greyhound Trust Harvel and their wonderful greyhounds. Among those showing their support for our campaign were racing commentators Mike Cattermole and Oli Bell as well as jockey Ryan Moore, who all enjoyed meeting the greyhounds.
Cress Lee, Marketing Manager at the Greyhound Board of Great Britain, addressed the spectators at Lingfield, saying:
“We are asking for greyhound welfare to be offered the same support that racehorses receive. The statutory levy would see bookmakers pay a small percentage of their profits towards greyhound welfare, in a similar model to the statutory levy on horseracing. Greyhounds deserve their welfare to be supported just as much as racehorses do.”

A statutory levy would provide secure, reliable funding to support our important greyhound welfare initiatives and protect our sport for years to come.
